Hi, I'm Heidi

Hello! I'm Heidi Murphy and I am a current member of the Cottage Grove Village Board. I grew up in Cambridge, Wisconsin. I graduated from the University of Wisconsin-Madison with a BA in Geography. After graduation, I continued my education for an additional year at the UW and earned a certificate in Geographic Information Systems, studying data visualization through mapping.

After college, I moved to Chicago to pursue a career with the US Census Bureau. I used my mapping skills to aid the outreach campaigns during the 2010 Census. After the 2010 Census, I continued my work with the Bureau at the Chicago Regional Office leading an ongoing survey for the eight state region.

My career changed paths when my husband, Brian, and I relocated to the Chicago suburbs, where I had the opportunity to again serve my community by working as a substitute teacher in a local district.

In 2016, we decided to relocate back to the Madison area where we both grew up. We decided to settle in Cottage Grove and we are so happy we chose this wonderful community. Before the COVID-19 pandemic, I was working at the University Book Store part-time on various inventory and data projects. Over the last year, I have been able to fully dedicate my time to my various community and policy goals.

During my term of the Village Board, I have advocated for a number of important issues. I have prepared for each meeting by reviewing the materials from a variety of perspectives. I have researched issues and asked for additional information to help guide my decisions. If I earn your vote in April, I will continue to work on the issues important to our community.
